Low Poly Robot Ninja

This was the first time that I ever modeled a 3D character, so going into this was bound to be a challenge.

I wanted to do a Robot Ninja for an action video game to stretch out my crative skill and to ensure that I can be versatile when working on a particular asset.

I started by researching artworks of robots and ninjas to get a better idea of what my Robot Ninja was going to look like. I then looked on the type of weapons that Ninjas used in real life and the one that actually surprised me was the Hook Sword. It was such a fascinating weapon compared to the usual Katana blade, so I decided that would be the weapon the ninja was going to use.

I started off with the Hook Sword, where the aesthetics are a bit more mechanical, compared to the real life ones. After it was done, I then started ,modeling the Robot Ninja itself. It was easy to do the torso, arms, legs and feet. The head and the hands proved to be a bit of a challenge. With the hands, I had to do the fingers while ensuring that there were enough edges to connect to the wrist and with the head, it was a matter of how it was going to connect to the neck.

Because it was the first time I ever modeled a 3D character. Trying to do the poses and exporting them in Unreal Engine 4 became a massive issue, as the polygons would be distorted everytime I attempted to play around with the skeleton mesh while it was still rigged to the character mesh. So I decided to do the rendered poses on Maya.

In conclusion, I'm happy with the outcome as it was my first attempt, have learnt alot in the process. Looking forward to my next project.
